Uddami

Uddami is a technical school that offer computer skills to families with low incomes. The aim is to increase the capacity of youth from low income communities in urban Kolkata so they can develop sustainable livelihoods in the mainstream ICT (Information and Communication Technology) sector. Two teachers from that school have joined forces with GRO to bring in more deaf students into the mainstream by teaching communication skills so they can benefits more from the classroom with these new-found skills.

 

Shuktara

Shuktara offers a home for life, where its 15 boys and 5 girls can come to terms with their disabilities, pursue their education and training and fulfill their potential. Among these children are those whom are deaf and will be participating in Sign Camp created by GRO and Uddami in a joint effort to improve students' abilities to communicate in a classroom environment and workplace.

 

Ishara Foundation

Ishara's main objective is to improve deaf education in India at all levels. GRO have partnered with Ishara Foundation to share information and new ideas to pursue different avenues that can contribute to the growth of deaf education in India.

 

 

Mirakle Couriers

Mirakle Couriers is a courier company with a difference as they employ only deaf adults. Deafness is an invisible disability, and has been largely ignored in India. All the staff members including delivery personnel are deaf. GRO is working with Mirakle to provide opportunity for US delegates to shadow with the deaf employees to gain insight on their day to day experience working for a successful deaf-run company in India.
