Monica Keller originally comes from Chicago, Illinois, but has moved to four different states: Colorado, New Mexico, New York and California. Her passport is filled with stamps from Costa Rica, Mexico, Amsterdam, Canada, Italy and soon to be: KENYA! Monica is currently a student at Gallaudet University majoring in International Relations/Education. She hopes to combine her love for the Deaf community with her motivation for her major by being part of Global Reach Out Initiative and developing connections with Deaf youth in the future. Monica received an incredible amount of support from her third generation Deaf family and several Deaf schools, and now it is her time to start giving back to the community internationally. She has dual focuses: Deaf programs and education curriculum. Monica wants to study more about how to promote the best education method for Deaf children in the future, such as using the bilingual approach with their own culture and language. Monica is a first time participant of GRO Kenya, Africa in summer 2009 and hopes for more to come under the GRO Initiative program in the future! She is definitely looking forward to meeting everybody at Kenya! |
