India 2007

Interest for the India 2007 trip was so high that GRO split it into two separate delegations over the course of the summer of 2007. The first group, GRO's second-ever delegation from the U.S. traveled to Mumbai, India first. The second group, or GRO's third-ever delegation, went to Bangalore, India within the same month.GRO experienced its first true peer-to-peer programs in both Mumbai and Bangalore. In India, American delegates were matched up with deaf Indian Delegates, and the two groups merged to share cultural experiences and issues within their respective Deaf communities. They traveled together to other deaf schools and visited with the young students there. At the end of the three-week program, the American and Indian delegates presented the ideas they learned from each other in role-play format to numerous members of the Indian Deaf community.Topics shared included the common issues experienced within deaf communities across international borders such as the dinner table syndrome, media access, hearing stereotypes, and educational options. Presentations were conducted via visual demonstrations of how to potentially approach and/or solve those issues.Blogs by each team:
